Our Academic Coordinator in GEOS San Francisco!
Meet Kristin 
Foss! Kristin is originally from New Jersey. She graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Secondary English Education. Before joining GEOS San Francisco as our new Academic Coordinator, Kristin worked at GEOS New York as a teacher. She has also taught English abroad in Chile. Kristin’s favorite San Francisco neighborhood is the Mission and in her free time she likes to go hiking. She would also like to learn how to play the banjo. Please say hi to Kristin! J

m Thailand has enjoyed a lot of fun activities during their stay, including beach trips, ice skating, bowling, and visiting local amusement parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios!
To celebrate Easter, we had an Easter egg hunt outside the building – the students split into groups, and hid eggs for each other to find. They had a great time and really got into the team spirit.
TESL course in GEOS Victoria, April 30th
The GEOS Victoria TESL course will start on April 30th. This 100-hour course aims to provide language teaching training to individuals who want to teach English as a Second or Foreign Language. The course will develop linguistic and cultural competencies in students intending to use their skills in their home country or abroad as teachers of English. The program is broken down into modules that focus on both theory as well as practice.
Trainees will learn how to prepare a lesson, and issues related to planning selection of materials to teach. They will discuss issues related to teaching specific language skills (i.e. listening and speaking, reading and writing, and grammar) and will be given an opportunity to prepare lessons and teach in front of peers. They will receive feedback from their teachers and peers and will develop an ability to assess their own teaching skills.
Trainees also have the option of completing the GEOS TESL practicum. The 20-hour practicum is the practical application of instructional skills through classroom observation, analysis, and teaching demonstration. Skills learned during this practicum will enable the trainee to be confident about teaching in a classroom with English Learners. The trainee will be ready to pace and deliver lessons for second language learners with varying language proficiencies, L1 literacy, motivations, educational backgrounds. The entire practicum takes place at the GEOS Language Academy, Victoria campus under the guidance of the Practicum Supervisor.
The GEOS Victoria TESL course is recognized by TESL Canada.

As you know GEOS has joined the Sprachcaffe Languages Plus Group and we will now be known as GEOS Languages PLUS. It’s an exciting time for us as we prepare for next year and the new opportunities this brings for us and our students.

Over the past few years, more and more students have been interested in advancing their career prospects by going to colleges and universities after they improve their English with GEOS.
We recently started a new session of our intermediate level IELTS elective course. The advanced IELTS elective class has been running all year and so it’s great for us to be able to offer it to intermediate level students now. For a challenging full-time option, the TOEFL iBT class is probably the best available in Ottawa. It’s hard work but really effective.
Intensive English – 24 academic hours –
Communicative Method of language teaching that is second to none! GEOS is the only private school in Ottawa to operate 6 levels of ESL year-round. Our morning course, called Integrated Skills (IS) allows students to develop their ability in all four skills of English (reading, writing, listening and speaking). Our afternoon program is called Active Listening (AL) and focuses on improving the practical communication skills of listening and speaking.
Super Intensive – 31 academic hours –
Many of our students choose to enhance their studies with an extra elective class (7 hours per week). Our current elective classes are:
Levels 1 & 2 – Grammar Works (Beginner)
Levels 3 & 4 – Grammar Works (Intermediate) or IELTS Preparation (Intermediate)
Levels 5 & 6 – IELTS Preparation (Advanced)
TOEFL iBT Preparation Program (Advanced) – 24 academic hours
GEOS Ottawa is the perfect choice for the more serious student who is thinking about applying for university in Canada. Our very popular TOEFL iBT program prepares students in all aspects of the test to significantly increase their chances of passing.
Private Instruction / Closed groups
In addition to our regular scheduled group classes we also offer private and small group lessons in English and French with flexible schedules and class content to suit the needs of the student.

She joined GEOS NY this past summer and specializes in teaching our high level students English in a fun and dynamic way.
Meet Michelle:
“Hi guys! A little bit about me…I was born in New Jersey but have also lived in Wisconsin, Mississippi, and Maryland. After graduating from university, I moved to China to absorb the culture, language and art, which I love. I lived there for four years teaching English. I feel that my specialty is creating a connection with my students that really helps to make a great atmosphere in class. Of course, I also love to watch my student’s progress. When I’m not teaching, you can find me walking my dog in Astoria Park or painting New York’s spectacular cityscape.”
